Tuning
The modifications of the engine housing can be segmented into two categories, one the intake (crank housing intake only) and two the transfer ports.
This is where the most horses are hidden. Especially on the Vespa and Lambretta motors it is often necessary to modify the transfer ports. Often the existing transfer ports have to be removed (welding) to be able to grind new more flow optimized Ports. Base Rule: The less turbulence the better.
Vespa PX:
Main Ports
It is a must to adjust the transfer ports on the Vespa PX200 if you want to use a Polini 207 or Malossi 210 cylinder kit. After the transfer ports have been removed the sealing surface (contact surface for the cylinder and gasket) is level planed because the existing transfer ports have been filled with aluminium by welding. It is also necessary to re-mill the opening so that the cylinder fits on the housing. The last step is to grind new transfer ports in the housing that perfectly fit the new cylinder and then polish them.

Inlet Port
To modify the intake on Vespa PX motors for membrane intake it is necessary to add some material on the clutch side by welding. Without welding you may break through the housing on the clutch side while enlarging the intake channel. The intake channel will be enlarged and polished. Also the intake block will be slightly modified.

Vespa Smallframe
The above explained modifications can be transferred to Vespa Smallframe housings, Lambretta housings and other brands.
Main Ports
If a 130ccm Polini in the modified version (5mm spacer at the bottom and large channels) or a modified Malossi 136ccm is used on a Vespa Smallframe it is also recommended to add some material on the ignition side (the stator has to be tweaked a little) and on two spots at the clutch side and the cylinder contact surface. The surface can be level planed easily since it will be welded at just a small spot.
