Tuned motors require a stronger clutch which is capable of transmitting larger torques. This  is achieved by increasing the friction surface (more clutch pads) or /  and by increasing the contact force (reinforced clutch springs). Often,  the coupling basket or the coupling baskets must also be strengthened  so that they do not bend out due to excessive forces and rotational  speeds.

For the Vespa PX clutch, a 4-disc "Cosa" clutch with hard springs should be installed from 14 hp on the rear wheel and when using a racing exhaust.

The massive ring, which is placed around the coupling basket, protects against the bending of the coupling basket. Gladly we put you a ring around your coupling basket.

We offer harder springs in 3 versions. XL and XXL and XXXL.

For very powerful engines over 30 hp should be a completely CNC milled massive clutch with modern Honda CR80 flooring to be used. These clutch pads have already proved to be very stable in engines with 50 hp.

Vespa smallframe clutch
As an entry-level version, we recommend the use of the XL2 clutch from PIAGGIO. Equipped with 4 cork clutch discs.

However, this clutch also comes very quickly to the limit of its durability.

Highly recommended for medium performance is the BGM Superstrong clutch. Care must be taken that the small Kulukorb is properly seated on the secondary shaft. 2 small (!) Drops Loctide 603 give the cone connection the necessary support.

For power over 20 hp a CNC machined very stable clutch is necessary.
There are several variants. The Hartz4 coupling proved to be very good.

Lambretta clutch
Basically a GP clutch should always be used. We are rebuilding LI / SX / TV pressure plates on GP pinch. The new GP GP plates to be purchased today are of poor quality.
It is relatively easy to install a 5 disc clutch. 5 thin cork linings and 4 thin steel discs are used. Helpful is a deeply milled clutch basket. It gives the padding package a little more clutch play.

A Liedolsheim clutch should be mounted from rear wheel powers of approx. 20 to 25 hp. Only this holds power up well over 40 hp without difficulty. This Liedolsheim clutch is also equipped with modern Honda CR80 clutch pads.

The right choice of gear oil is also very important. There are gear oils which are not suitable for oil bath couplings. Some oils provoke a coupling pluck. When making oils, the clutch slips through. The choice of the right oil is not just about the viscosity, but also about the alloying components in the oil.

We have been using a very good Motul oil in all our engines for years and have also achieved very good results in racing.
